the last teaching practice

As the teacher likes to have the practitioners observing one class before the practice, I went to observe on Tuesday in order to teach on Thursday; at the end of the class, she gave me the activities that I have to develop, and actually they were just two activities, but I have to include warm-up and wrap-up.

I arrived to the classroom so early; I was excited to start the class, but at the same time, I was nervous because I had the flu; and any ways I had to develop the class, so I wrote the date, objective and the agenda.
I started the class at 4:00 ó clock and in the classroom were just five students; the warm-up that I developed was “the handball” and in the penalties I wrote some questions in order to make a review of the previous topic which was the past of “be” and the teacher had already introduced the WH-Questions.

After that, I read some adjectives to describe trips; I made students repeat the adjectives; then, I gave them an example of one of my trips using those adjectives, and later I asked them to write some sentences about one trip that they had done (because they had been talking about their trips) using at least two or more adjectives; something that I forgot to the explain here was the meaning of each adjectives, but when students read what they had written, I could notice that they knew the meaning because each adjective has one picture; but I learned that I have to explain to the students the meaning of each new word.

Later, I explained the students how to make WH-Questions in the past tense of the verb “be”. Then, I provided them some examples, and I gave them a sheet of paper in which they had to transform some sentences into WH-Questions. I provided them 10 sentences, and when I checked them, I noticed that some students had troubles in two sentences while others had troubles in three sentences; even thought it was a challenging for they to transform sentences into WH-Questions, I can say that they worked well.

As a wrap-up, I provided the students five questions, and they had to unscramble them; I noticed again that they had understood the structure to make WH-Questions because they were able to do it in a perfect way.

As I conclusion of the three practices that I developed, I can say that I leant a lot from the feedback that I received because even thought that things I didn´t develop perfectly, the teacher used to tell me those things  in a nice way, and also she provided me the way to improve them.

second practice

My second teaching practice; the teacher asked me to go to observe her class the previous day of my practice because based on what she had planned, I had to continue, so I went, and after her class finished, she gave me like the agenda that I had to develop for my practice. Thus that, based on the activities that she told me to develop, I created the lesson plan, and I sent it to her that night; the next the day in the morning, she had replied me, and she suggested me to rewrite the objective and to modify some activities, so I did it.

In the afternoon, I was ready to start the class, but as always the students arrived late, I started the class at 4:00 ó clock which was good for me because I had in mind that at 4:45 I had to finish.

The warm-up that I developed was “ Don´t let the balloon down” even though they were few students, they had fun with this game; when we were about to finish with the warm-up, more students arrived to the class.

Later, asked the students to open their books in the page 67 and to work in the exercise A which was about Frequency Adverbs; and I played an audio, and students had to circle the best frequency adverb that complete the sentences; when they finished, I checked them, and they had worked very well.

Then, I asked them to work in exercise B which was about The simple present and the present continues; after that as transition I asked the students the following questions “ why is important to to stay in shape”, and “what people have to do to stay in shape” after some minutes of discussion, I  played another audio  the first time was for students to get familiar with it. Later, I played it the second time for students to circle the words that complete the statements, and the last time was for they to recheck their answers; then, I asked them to make three groups for sharing their findings, and I asked one by one to read what they had.
Later, I moved to the next activity which was a survey; I asked the students to complete the survey in their books in page 69. At the end of the survey, they were having fun because some students realized that they were couch potato.

To end up with the class, I asked students to tell me some new words that they had leant in that class, and the words that students said were the following: couch potato, junk, salty, shape.

So, I finished that class exactly at 4:45 which surprised me because I was able to develop all the activities as I had planned in the lesson.

First teaching practice

Let me tell you about my first teaching practice in the last period. After going to observe the class, the mentor told us that we have to be in her class one day before to develop our practices, so I was going to teach on Friday, and she asked to go to her class on Thursday too. There she gave me like the agenda that I have to develop; she told that after the warm-up I have to make a short review of the topic that she had already introduced, and the topic was “Frequency Adverbs” then she told me that I have to teach grammar, and finally the warp-up. At the beginning, I was scared because I thought that I was not going to cover all the time.  As on Fridays I don´t have classes, I arrived very early to the classroom; I started writing the agenda and the objective; also, I cut masking type because I was going to use it for the charts; when it was 3:48, my classmate arrived, and by that time, I was ready to start the class, and he asked me where the students were because anybody wasn´t there, and we thought that may be they were not going to be in the class because the teacher told them that I was going to teach; suddenly, the teacher arrived, by that time, it was time to start the class, but she told me to wait some more minutes. Finally, four students arrived, and then three more arrived, so I started around 4:00 pm. The warm-up that I developed was called Frequency Adverbs; I asked them to make circle, and when I mentioned some frequency adverbs they had to change place; they really had fun with this game.

Then in the short review, first, I wrote on the board the frequency, and I asked for volunteers to come to the board and to write some frequency adverbs that they remember, and all of them were able to do it correctly.

In the grammar phase, I gave them a sheet of paper with the meaning of the frequency adverbs; also, I made them repeat after me the frequency adverbs; then I pasted some charts and explained the structure of frequency adverbs with “action verbs” and with the verb “to be” in the positive, negative and interrogative form; in this part, I was supposed to spend around 15 minutes, and when I checked the time, I have spent around 20 minutes. I think this happened because teacher told me to try to speak so slowly since the students are in basic.

To end up with the class, I asked the students to make two groups; I gave them a balloon and some sentences for they to unscramble them, and one of the students in the group has run with the balloon between his legs and writes the sentences on the board.
